- 795- First Viking raid on Ireland. This begins almost three hundred years of Viking influence on Ireland.
- 1014- Defeat of Viking forces by the army of Brian Boru. Viking power decrease.
- 1171- Henry II lands in Waterford and declares himself lord of Ireland.;
- 1297- First Irish Parliament meets in Dublin
- 1315- Edward Bruce ralleys many Irish against English rule
- 1367 - A law was passed to keep the Irish natives separate from the English colonists.
- 1494- Poynings' Law past saying Irish Parliament couldn't make any laws without English consent.
- 1542- Crown of Ireland Act, this act made the kingdom of Ireland to be ruled by King Henry III and his successors. Henry VIII tried to separate the Catholic Church from Ireland as he had in England. He was met with fierce disputes, setting off hundreds of years of revolt
- 1558- Irish rebellion in Ulster. Queen Elizabeth II suppressed revolts and claim Irish land for English. Put high taxes into place.
- 1603-Disputes became connected to Catholic versus Protestant although the distinction was also Native Irish versus English colonists. Catholic schools closed.
- 1727 -Irish Catholics denied the right to vote or hold office. Poverty among Catholic Irish increased.
- 1798 -Another unsuccessful revolt in Ireland led to the Irish relinquishing their own parliament
- 1801 - United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland came into existence. Protestant areas of Ireland were given more favour and did well economically while most Catholic areas of Ireland, most of the country, lost financially.
- 1841 - Beginning of the Great Famine. Potato blight killed most of the potato crop for several years. Between 1841 - 1851, Ireland's population fell from 8.2 million to 6.6 million because of starvation, disease and emigration.
